What is myringitis and how can it be prevented when diving?

Myringitis is ear drum pain which results from hitting the water too hard, improperly clearing the ears and from diving at varying depths. It can be prevented by wearing a hood and clearing your ears gently. Olive oil is beneficial and may relieve the symptoms of myringitis.
