Why should individuals avoid scuba diving for several days following a tooth extraction?

Divers should not dive immediately after a tooth extraction so that they can avoid experiencing tissue emphysema around their face which often occurs when air enters the tissues via the tooth socket as a result of the positive pressure generated when breathing a regulator.
