How do wetsuits protect divers?

Wetsuits are designed to fit snugly to the body so once the diver enters the water, a very thin layer of water seeps inside the suit, creating a layer of insulation between the material and the skin.  The water warms from the body’s temperature and as it stays in place throughout the dive, it literally keeps the skin and organs warm.
