If you get injured or become sick while traveling, it is important to seek medical help as soon as possible. This is particularly true if you develop flu-like symptoms while visiting a malaria-risk area, if you have diarrhea and a high fever, have bloody diarrhea, have been bitten or scratched by an animal, have been in a car accident, have been seriously injured in some other way, or have been sexually assaulted. Drink plenty of clean water if you have been ill and if you are in need of further assistance, contact your local embassy. If you are feeling ill on an airplane or on a cruise ship, then let the crew know immediately. Cruise ships have limited medical facilities and if they cannot treat you, they will stabilize you and send you to an on-shore hospital as soon as possible. On an airplane you may be separated from the rest of the passengers and taken to a medical facility on land as soon as possible.
