What were the "Bottom Scratchers"?

Bottom Scratchers was a dive group from San Diego, California founded by Jack Prodanovich, Glenn Orr, and Ben Stone, which became intensely popular.  Some of the early members to this dive group included Jim Stewart, Bill Batzloff, Lamar Boren, Jack Corbley, and Wally Potts.  The popularity of the group was so vast that many other groups would follow suit for many years.
