If finding treasures underwater sounds like fun to you, check out the Tobago Underwater Carnival. This fantastic dive extravaganza is held annually and is without a doubt one of the best events the Caribbean region has to offer.
Location
The 2013 Tobago Underwater Carnival takes place at a variety of venues throughout Speyside. There are a number of hotels in the area, all of which are diver-friendly and many of which offer special scuba diving packages, beach access, and more.
Dates
Tobago’s 2013 Underwater Carnival will be taking place between July 22nd and July 29th. While you’ll enjoy yourself more if you stay all week, you’ll still have plenty of fun if you can only manage to stay in Tobago for a few days.
Underwater Carnival Highlights
The 2013 Underwater Carnival begins in earnest on Sunday evening, with an opening ceremony at Blue Waters Inn, complete with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres plus a presentation by underwater photographer Ty Sawyer. Afterward, those who are interested in competing in a fun photo contest can attend a briefing with tips on photographing Tobago’s six angelfish species.
Each morning, dives take place until about 1 pm, after which lunch is served at host hotels. Each day, you’ll get the opportunity to partake in a variety of presentations from cinematographers, conservation foundations, wildlife experts, and more. Non-divers can try scuba for free, so if you’ve got a friend or family member who is considering SCUBA, now is a great time and Tobago is a great place to plant that seed!
Every afternoon and evening, happy hours, special dinners, awards, and fun activities take place. Some to try include kayak races, tug o’war, and crab races.
For non-divers who don’t like the idea of trying scuba, Tobago has a wealth of natural resources and plenty of eco adventures including bird watching tours, rainforest adventures, horseback riding, and glass bottom boat trips. Stay in the area a little longer if you’d like, and experience all this for yourself – you’ll come away with a whole new appreciation of the natural world plus renewed excitement for your favorite sport.
