The Reefs Of Saint Vincent
Anchor Reef
Anchor Reef is located to the Leeward site of St. Vincent. The location got its name from the fact that an 18th century anchor can be seen buried in its dense reef. While diving through this lovely location, divers will be surprised with the wide selection of sites that are hidden within it. It has a lovely deep black coral garden located to the edge of a wall; this scene is then complemented with the presence of sponges and coral covering a gentle slope. There is also a cave located at 35ft point of the wall and this has become the home of different species of fish and sea animals.
There is also a sandy area that is full of surprises. You may be lucky to get a glimpse of pistol shrimps, sea horses, squids, sand eels and many more in this divine area. You will also spot the presence of frogfish, duster worms, critters and reef fish decorating the giant reef that stands showing all its eminence. This reef is noted for its superb visibility when compared to other reef sites in St. Vincent.
Frizzy Reef
Frizzy Reef is located off Calliaqua Bay in Saint Vincent and often goes camouflaged due to the unusual surroundings that hide the geothermic activity that is present. However, the careful observer will come face to face with large pelagics and astonishing underwater topography to take back home on a photo!
New Guinea Reef
Intense and varied combinations of colors are the main characteristics that distinguish New Guinea Reef from others in St. Vincent. The different species of black coral that beautifully decorate the terrain add a special touch to the whole site. The reef’s walls are long and are covered in sponges.
The Reefs Of The Grenadine Islands
To the South there are a number of diving options that are offered by the Grenadine Islands. The best dive spots with reefs can be found in: Mayreau, Tobago Cays, Union Island and Petit St. Vincent.
Mayreau
Mayreau is located to the Western end of Tobago Cays and surprises divers with its subtle waters that appear to be calm. It is within the very center of the Grenadines and is rarely dived by many people, thus making it an unspoiled paradise that no diver should miss. It is at the western end of the Tobago Cays National Park and boasts lovely reefs in world class water. If you are looking to combine wreck diving with reef diving then you will be pleasantly surprised with the 1918 wreck that lies off Mayreau. The wreck consists of a British Gun Ship that is within 40 feet of water. It can be seen by both those that are new to diving and those that have years of experience under their sleeves.
Tobago Cays
Tobago Cays is protected by the local government and has a number of dive points to attract the interest of any diver. The Horseshoe Reef andEnds Reef are full of a vibrant sea life that consists of sand sharks, nurse sharks, sting rays and spotted eagle rays.
Union Island
At Union Island there is the Round About Reef that is for both advanced and new divers. It is located between 20ft-50ft and has manta rays, coral, fish and sting rays. Many other dive sites on the island also provide opportunities to encounter these creatures.
Petit St. Vincent
Divers in search of amazing reef formations will find Mopion Reef andPinese Reef of particular interest in Petit St. Vincent. Mopion Reef is gifted with large lobsters and many different types of sharks with the Caribbean Reef sharks and nurse sharks being the most prominent near this earthly paradise. The reef is located within 50 feet and is perfect for those that love drift diving. Pinese Reef is another submerged paradise that boasts large lobsters. The reef lies within 65 feet and is perfectly decorated with spotted drums.
