Why do colors appear different underwater?

Colors appear different underwater because they are actually wavelengths reflected by objects. Underwater, the waves travel very differently with some being filtered out by water quicker than others. One of the first colors to disappear is red as it is a lower energy wave, followed by orange and then yellow. Green waves are around for longer and blue waves are the longest which is why the deeper you go the more blue something becomes.
