What invention is Guglielmo De Lorena known for and why did this creation become his claim to fame?

Guglielmo de Lorena created and used the first modern day diving bell in 1535.  Of all equipment for underwater exploration and work, the diving bell is one of the earliest types.  In fact, the concept of the diving bell was mentioned by Aristotle in the 4th century BC when documentation was discovered whereby he stated, “…they enable divers to respire equally well by letting down a cauldron, for this does not fill with water, but retains the air, for it is forced down into the water.”
