Royal Navy also referred to as the “British Navy” had the honor. This development was directly linked to the successful recovery operation of 28 cannons from the “Royal George” shipwreck. Divers wore the dive helmet developed by Charles and John Deane, coupled with the “closed dress” dive suit developed by Augustus Siebe. With the experience being such a vast improvement over previous recovery dives, the Royal Navy compiled “lessons learned” and established the first dive school in 1843.
