What is the difference between a whale, a dolphin, and a porpoise?

The terms whale, dolphin, and porpoise do not necessarily fit the scientific classifications, but they are the common terms by which these creatures are known.  Whales tend to be the largest of the animals.  Porpoises tend to be smaller and they have spade-shaped teeth and no beak.  Dolphins are those animals between these two groups.
