Signs that a diver may be having a panic attack in the water are as follows: they appear wide eyed, have rapid or difficulty breathing, are clinging to things and clambering, are not swimming efficiently, have high treading and thrashing rates, are discarding equipment and look as though they are ascending too rapidly. A diver exhibiting any of these actions should be closely monitored and emergency assistance provided as needed to avoid a dive accident.
