Can women dive while experiencing pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS)?

PMS is a syndrome that affects 25%-50% of all menstruating women and is due to hormonal fluctuations that occur at the end of their cycle, just before they menstruate.  Symptoms are wide ranging, including irritability, mood swings, fatigue, tension, a decrease in mental alertness, depression, bloating, breast tenderness, joint pain, headaches, and can make underlying emotional issues worse.  Women who dive while experiencing PMS are not at a higher risk for decompression sickness or other related dive accidents, but there is research that shows that in general women who are experiencing PMS have more accidents.  This means that it might be wise to dive conservatively during the time you experience PMS.
