Can I wear contact lenses while scuba diving?

Contact lenses may be worn while diving, however, it is far better to get prescription lenses for your mask. The rationale behind this is that a micro organism called acanthamoeba lives in the water and if it comes into contact with a scratched cornea, a blinding infection is likely to follow; this is the reason that divers who experience a red eye after diving with contact lenses require a visit to the doctor.
