The 2015 AAUS Diving For Science Symposium: Educational Workshops, Fun Dives, and Great Company Awaits

Enjoy an entire week filled with workshops ranging from DAN and PSI courses to Lionfish and Reef Check. The American Academy of Underwater Sciences Diving for Science Symposium also offers the opportunity for plenty of socializing and networking, plus fun dives on the Aquarius and Vandenberg.

The AAUS Diving for Science Symposium begins September 28, 2015, and comes to a conclusion on October 3, 2015. Registration opened in April, and abstract submissions are being accepted until June 15, 2015. Be sure to visit the AAUS website for important details.

Each year AAUS selects a new, intriguing location for its Diving for Science Symposium. This year, the event takes place in the Florida Keys, where dive sites are numerous and marine life is varied. 

2015 AAUS Diving For Science Symposium – Event Highlights

Long to explore Florida’s reef environments and take a look at some of the area’s most famous artificial reefs? The AAUS Diving for Science Symposium offers plenty of opportunities for shore diving and boat diving in a beautiful environment. 

The entire week will be filled with informative workshops too, with opportunities for learning that range from PSI and DAN courses to Reef Check and Lionfish classes designed to provide information about invasive species. 

There will be many opportunities for networking and socializing with friends new and old throughout the week, plus there will be an exciting two-day science symposium and an annual awards banquet. The week wraps up with the annual national DSO meeting, providing all participants with the opportunity to be an active part of the Academy.

Don’t miss the opportunity to dive the Vandenberg and see the famous Aquarius site.

2015 AAUS Diving For Science Symposium – Places to Stay and Things to See

If you’ve never been to the Florida Keys, you’re in for a real treat. There are countless hotels, motels, inns, and bed and breakfast type lodgings to choose from, with prices ranging from discount to extravagant. 

You’ll find that there is no shortage of fun things to do during your time in the Florida Keys. Visit Bahia Honda State Park and Beach for a leisurely picnic and some snorkeling, or take a side trip to the Dry Tortugas, which is easy to access via ferry. This spot offers a massive brick Civil War Fort surrounded by some of the best snorkeling Florida has to offer. History, scenery, and water; what could be better? 

If you’re a bookworm, you’ll appreciate the opportunity to see Ernest Hemingway’s home and museum, famous not just for its link to the famous author, but for its pride of polydactyl cats. 

Finally, don’t forget about John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, and during a surface interval, take a trip to the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory. 

Be sure to fuel up along the way. There are loads of restaurants to choose from including lots of local favorites with incredible culinary specialties.
