Will I experience pain if I touch a sponge?

It depends! Many sponges when touched do not cause pain to a diver; however if you come in contact with a toxic variety, you may end up with an itchy rash where the sponge came into contact with your skin. If this happens, wash the area thoroughly and apply an antiseptic cream; the rash should subside within a few days.
