Why would I need to rescue a diver?

A diver will need rescuing if they run out of breathing gas, have a problem with their mask and cannot read their gauges, have become lost or trapped underwater, have become unconscious, have undergone some sort of trauma, are panicking, or are otherwise unable to return to the shore or boat.
