Why is Helium used in mixed gas diving?

Helium is used in mixed gas diving because it has a lesser density than oxygen and nitrogen and therefore reduces the work of breathing. It is also less narcotic than nitrogen. In addition, helium reduces the concentration of oxygen in the gas mix and therefore the risk of oxygen toxicity.
