In 1955, 23-year old Louis Malle teamed up with Jacques Cousteau to shoot The Silent World. It was one of the initial films that was able to use underwater cinematography. The film was created to show the depths of the ocean in color. In 1956, The Silent World won an Academy Award for being the Best Documentary Feature.
