In general, people with diabetes are encouraged to exercise regularly as it reduces the risk of cardiovascular complications and keeps blood sugar levels under better control. When muscles are exercised there is a greater uptake of sugar by the muscle cells which results in a lower blood sugar. Diabetics are taught how to regulate their medication to coincide with exercise. However all diabetics need to be aware that when they exercise they run the risk of the blood sugar dipping too low and a subsequent hypo attack.
