How can I tell if I have been affected by sponge toxins?

If you have inadvertently touched a sponge or you are not certain you have there are signs to watch out for.  The area may be painful and red and it might also have either a tingling sensation or be itchy.  Swelling and small raised areas that may become puss-filled are also a possibility and in extremely rare instances a person may experience nausea, malaise, and fainting.
