Do MPA's and marine reserves protect biodiversity?

MPA’s and marine reserves work to protect species that naturally occur in an area.  These fish and other marine creatures have a chance to live in a protected area where they can feed and breed and grow in a free environment, completely uninterrupted by human activity.  This allows them to rebuild depleted populations, which will then spill out into the surrounding waters.
