Is cave diving dangerous?

There are different levels of cave diving, just as there are different levels of other types of sports.  For instance, some skiers stick to the resort slopes, where many people ski regularly and the risks are low, and others ski virgin snow in high mountain passes, where the risks are far greater.  As a cave diver you may feel safer as a recreational cave diver, which means that you are diving in caves that are frequented by other divers and that are well mapped out.  The risks associated with this type of cave diving are low.  However, if you are the more adventurous type, then you might find that you want to explore the unknown and be the first to do so.  You want to swim through tunnels and see where they go.  Exploration of caves through diving is definitely riskier.
